An All-Abilities Adventure
Welcome to the Lotterywest Karda Playspace, our vibrant new all-abilities playground nestled within the WACA Ground's northern community precinct. Named using the Noongar word Karda—meaning goanna—this landmark space is both a cultural celebration and a joyful place to play and connect.
Why Karda Playspace Rocks
- Inclusive Design: Its meandering goanna-shaped layout features fully accessible ramped pathways, ensuring children and families of all abilities—including wheelchair users—can explore and enjoy.
- Sensory-Rich Experience: Climb through sensory tunnels, engage with interactive panels and musical elements, and wander a lush sensory garden filled with natural textures to spark imaginative play.
- Cultural Connection: The name "Karda" was chosen in partnership with Lotterywest and the WA Aboriginal Cricket & Culture Advisory Committee, honouring Noongar heritage and celebrating cultural storytelling.
More Than Just a Playground
The Karda Playspace is a cornerstone of our $5.85 million Lotterywest-backed redevelopment, which is transforming the WACA Ground into a more accessible, community-focused destination. Beyond the playground, improvements include:
- Changing Places facilities and calming/sensory rooms
- Braille signage, audio loops, and cultural installations
- Interactive museum exhibits and inclusive public spaces
- A revitalised venue that welcomes visitors of all backgrounds, abilities, and ages.
At the WACA Ground, we're proud of our heritage—and energized by our future. The Lotterywest Karda Playspace brings families together, sparks imagination, and makes sure everyone feels welcome. Come play, explore, and create new memories at Perth's storied sporting home.
